My First Time Using Base 44
For the pas at few weeks, I've been building my own app in Base44. I need a tool to track client display development programs while managing my own workflow as a solo consultant.
Back when I started Nestlé USA, we actually did have a decent tool to manage display development. But years later, we switched to a Nestle-built platform. The functionality of the original tool I came to rely on was no longer available.
Ever since then, I used to dream about what my ideal display management tool would look like. I envisioned a dashboard where the team could instantly see what they owed and when. It would save us from having to cobble things together with spreadsheets, email threads and extra meetings.
Now I'm actually building that tool using Base 44 and Claude as my thought partner.
Claude is helping me think through the architecture, write the prompts, and work through the logic of what the app actually needs to do. It's a different kind of collaboration than I expected — less "the AI builds it for me" and more "the AI helps me organize my thoughts, enabling me to build it myself."
Still a work in progress. Even with all the help from AI, it continues to be quite challenging. But it's mine, being built around how I actually work.
Have any other solo consultants tried building your own apps? If so, what are some things that stand out in your development journey?
